Done, and done

We finally made it.

Left Prince George, B.C. yesterday around 11:00 a.m.

Had lunch in Cache Creek at 3:30, small pizzeria called Annie’s

Hit the Canadian/US border without incident around 9-ish

Seattle was gorgeous under the clear skies of night, saw the space needle.

Had Micky D’s dinner somewhere along the highway at 2:30 a.m.

Finally pulled in at 4:30 this morning after 17 hours driving….unloaded just enough to find the bed and hit the hay.

Final tally:

85 hours away from Alaska

65 hours of actual driving

2680 miles of recommended travels. Can’t wait to do it again.

Mine is with my best friend, milk

1800 miles in two days, 800 more to go.
After packing the truck for 5 hours, we finally left town at 3:00 p.m., Tuesday.
Through the rain and sunshine, we strolled through the Canadian border at straight up midnight.  We hit 12:00 a.m. and 1:00 a.m. at the same time, weird.
Thus began those famous Yukon highways..frost heaves, longitudinal crevasses, giant potholes.  Through shear luck we are still on the surface of the planet, and not deep within it.
We ate cold fried chicken at 3 a.m.somewhere in the far north Yukon...this was Wednesday morning.
6:30 a.m. found us asleep for a 1-hour cat nap next to a river. Where? I dunno. It was utterly worthless for me but Marcie hysterically pronounced she "felt great!" blaga blaga blaga
On the road again...we continued to White Horse where Marcie's lack of sleep collided with her confusion over the liters to gallons conversion at which point she paced back and forth between my pump and hers muttering something like " how big is my tank, how big is my tank..." She finally ended up putting 3 gallons in.  We had A&W for lunch.
We continued forth to Watson Lake where we asserted ourselves among the hordes of Goliath Winnebagos to obtain yet more fuel from one of the two working stations...this took about an hour and 3 circles around a town of 2 blocks.
from here we mustered up just enough steam to punch ourselves into B.C. for a 6 hour rest among the northern Canadian Rockies.
Our dreams contained the events of the day and the wild we took in...moose, beaver, swans, herds of bison, and 4 black bears.
18 hours in the car

Day 2? 3?.....  Today.
Left the campsite (pullout on the river) around 4:00 a.m. and ventured south through the remaining 3+ hours of Rockies.  If you ever get the chance, drive from Fort Nelson to the Yukon....words can not describe.  Another day filled with wildlife...more bears (6 for today), more moose, some dahl sheep, a few surprise elk, two very new baby deer with polka dots, and 3 unidentifiables crossing the road a fair distance from us.
Up until a few minutes ago, we had been fighting a flattening tire on the trailer.  Aired it up multiple times along the way and finally decided to have U-haul just fix it...which they did.
Not much happened today, just a lot of drivin.  Saw the cutest baby bear...made him scramble into the bramble.
Found a hotel here in Prince George (Franklet) and finally got the stink off.  It's Canada Day up here so there are fireworks going off.  Dig those Canadian accents man.  Hopefully sleep comes easy, another long, late push day tomorrow.

Pics: hard to take quality pics while on the move, but we tried anyway.

homeward bound

Well, we are doing it again. Circumstances have invoked a shift in our residency, forcing us to relocate ourselves back into the contiguous Pacific Northwest. We are headed back to Albany on Tuesday (6/29). The plan is to drive long days, rest as necessary, and get back to the boys, currently in Redmond, OR, by the weekend. The immediate journey will culminate with the start of new employment for me and greater potential for Marcie. This change has been growing within us for some time and as destiny would have it, opportunities arose. Details will follow about the new job; it should prove to be different, scary, exciting, and beyond my expectations. More to follow. 
